Certifications.

Public authorities in Switzerland and elsewhere, as well as some institutions and employers, usually require certified translations of certain kinds of documents, including passports and vital records (e.g. birth and marriage certificates) but also diplomas, extracts from commercial registries and contracts. Not all entities require the same level of certification, however. Thus, we offer a range of options (the certification types most commonly required are in boldface):

• Agency certification – by wordup
• Acknowledgement of collaboration form for a Swiss civil registry office – signed by wordup
• Translator certification – certification by an authorised translator (also known as a sworn translator)
• Notarised certification – certification by a notary of the Canton of Bern
• Apostille – certification by the State Chancellery of the Canton of Bern (requires prior notarised certification, see above).
• “Seen for legalisation” (also known as simple certification, used for countries not party to the Apostille Convention) – certification by the State Chancellery of the Canton of Bern
• Authentication by the Swiss Federal Chancellery and/or the embassy of the country of destination.
